Question #1

Do you agree with Jocasta's choice on trying to kill Oedipus when he was a child? If so explain why.

  1. I understand her reasoning, but I don't understand why she would think she could outsmart the prophecy. I also think it is interesting that she got the servant to do her dirty work for her. It seems like if you were serious enough to kill your own son, you would at least do it yourself so you could get it right. Perhaps this is another example of her excessive pride, and it is showing how humans are weak compared to the gods.
